A/V PROJECTS

CORPORATE BROADCAST STUDIO - ADF
The $1.5M facility includes three production sets (two physical, one virtual on a green screen cyclorama wall), a control room, dedicated audio mixing room, server room, and talent green room. The infrastructure is built on a Blackmagic backbone — VideoHub routing, ATEM live switching, Sony cameras, Allen & Heath SQ5 audio console, ChamSys DMX lighting control, and Epiphan Pearl encoders for live streaming.
I joined ADF as a videographer just as this project was getting off the ground. I worked alongside the department head during the design phase — managing contractors, building SketchUp mockups, and helping spec the equipment package.
When he departed mid-project, I stepped into the Senior Video Engineer role and took over as the primary point of contact for the integration contractor through the remainder of the install — overseeing rack builds, cable routing, and keeping the project on budget and on schedule.
I now own the studio entirely: maintenance, upkeep, workflow development, and all productions that run through it.

ULTIMATTE VIRTUAL PRODUCTION SET — ADF
Once the studio was operational, I was tasked with integrating Blackmagic Ultimatte into our green screen cyclorama wall to create a fully functional virtual production set — something no one at ADF had done before.
The goal was to eliminate the constant drag of pulling gear to locations around our campus or shooting off-site entirely. With a virtual set, any background becomes available in minutes. I researched and executed the full integration independently: rack installation of three Ultimatte units (one per camera), SDI routing into our ATEM switcher, Ultimatte software configuration, and a HyperDeck-based plate playback workflow for real-time compositing.
I also outfitted our Sony FX3s with the necessary accessories to operate in a 4K SDI environment.
To build out our plate library, I led location shoots to capture background footage, which feeds directly into the live compositing workflow during broadcasts. The set serves as the primary environment for our monthly donor livestream.
Total hardware investment was approximately $12K. From first assignment to first live use: one month.
I also programmed all studio lighting into our ChamSys console for this space, so the set can go from dark to camera-ready in minutes — no crew, no setup call.

PODCAST SET — ADF
With the broadcast studio operational, an internal stakeholder commissioned a dedicated podcast set — built to seat three, with a warm, scholarly, and professional aesthetic that could serve as the backdrop for a recurring social media content series.
I provided creative direction for the full build while working alongside our in-house AV team. We installed flooring, constructed A-frame walls and bookshelves, and sourced props to achieve the desired look.
Once the physical set was complete, I handled the technical integration: a four-camera Canon C200 setup routed into our ATEM switcher via SDI, with audio routed into our Allen & Heath SQ5 for mixing in our dedicated audio room. The set is fully integrated into the studio's existing infrastructure, meaning it can be cut live from the control room like any other production.
The entire build — from first nail to camera-ready — was completed in under a week, including some late nights to hit the deadline.
